"Boulengier, Boulanger (Old French): Before the XIIth century, the word "baker" did not exist. I was derived from Picard "boulenc" ("that makes bread ball") and entered into use in the fifteenth century. They spoke of "Fournier" (from "four") or "pesteurs" (Latin for "Pistor"). Another hypothesis is that it is derived from the Middle Dutch word "bolle" (ball of bread).
